Feeling Stuck and Indecisive? Check Your Liver and Gallbladder
There is a reason so many people feel simultaneously driven and stuck in spring. Wood energy is pushing upward and outward with tremendous force, and if the Liver and Gallbladder system does not have the resources to match that momentum, the result is frustration, indecision, and a body that cannot quite loosen up no matter how much it moves. In TCM, the Gallbladder is called the Official of Decision and Judgment. It provides the clarity and courage to act on the Liver's vision. When Gallbladder Qi is weak or obstructed, people experience what we might now call decision fatigue, a state that neuroscience research has linked to depletion of prefrontal cortex resources, not unlike what TCM describes as Gallbladder Qi deficiency. The Liver governs all the tendons and sinews of the body, and tendon flexibility is a direct reflection of Liver Blood quality. A 2019 review in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine noted that Liver Blood deficiency presentations, including tendon tightness, visual disturbances, and emotional irritability, were among the most commonly identified patterns in adults experiencing burnout. This week, warm the body before stretching, shake stuck Qi loose when frustration rises, and practice small decisive moments throughout the day. These are not just wellness tips. They are how you work with the season rather than against it.
